FLEETS - time for gas

Fuel prices keep rising steadily and fuel expenditures constitute one of the major operating costs of vehicle fleets. As it can be observed in recent years, prices of diesel oil are rising faster than prices of petrol. Still a few years ago, prices of diesel oil were lower than prices of petrol by approx. 25%. At that time, many companies decided to choose cars with diesel engines for their fleets. The choice was dictated by lower operating costs resulting, among other things, from cheaper fuel. However the difference between the prices of the fuels has been recently at a level of only a few percent. In some periods prices of these fuels were the same. The price of diesel oil changes in a similar manner in relation to the price of LPG. Several years ago, diesel oil was more expensive than LPG by approx. 70%. Currently, the price of diesel oil is twice as high as the price of gas!

So, is it actually the most cost-effective solution for fleet companies to run their vehicles on diesel oil? This question is justified all the more, because the above changes are accompanied by other phenomena, the importance of which for the economy of fleets cannot be overestimated. These phenomena include:

increase in the failure frequency of diesel units (mainly: turbines, dual-mass flywheels, DPF filters). This is widely described by the professional press and users themselves,

higher purchase price of a car with a diesel engine as compared with the petrol version. An average price difference is 5 - 10 thousand PLN. This means an increase in the car price by 10 - 25% depending on the model.

technological development of autogas systems (currently there is 4th and 5th generation)

increase in the availability of LPG at fuel stations; there are about 6000 fuel stations in Poland which sell LPG.
